We recently looked inward and asked our OWL parliament, “What’s the best career advice you were ever given?” The answers were too impactful not to share. From our nest to yours, here is the best career advice we OWLs have received.
Within our world of clinical research, we have heard all kinds of great advice, such as, “never have a late trip report!”. These reports are critical for overseeing the safety, integrity, and regulatory compliance of the clinical trial, so we don’t take due dates lightly. Efficiency and dependency are core traits of a good CRA… and so is being on time!
In this industry, we know reputation is everything, which is why it's critical to be honest. One of our team members shared this sage advice: “Your name and integrity are attached to everything you do. Work with integrity in mind and success will follow.”
In a broader sense, our OWLs have learned the importance of being open to opportunities. As an avian-inspired crew, it's not surprising that one of our team members said not to count your owlets before they're hatched: "Never turn down a job that you haven't been offered.” Our OWLs understand the power of networking to build a strong parliament: “Connections will open doors - always show up with a good attitude and keep asking questions.” They also emphasized the importance of flying higher to embody the future you want: “Model yourself, your skills and your actions to resemble the job you're aiming for”.
While it’s important to have a job that pays the bills, what matters the most is finding a career that enriches your life. As one of our brilliant OWLs hooted, “Follow good leaders, not good money. The money will come, but the lessons are priceless."
Last but not least and perhaps the best advice of them all, “Don’t try to sneak up on an owl, they have night vision and can swivel their head 360 degrees.”
What is the best career advice you’ve been given?
